History
Mercer Island was named after the Mercer brothers, who rowed across Lake Washington from Seattle for berry picking, hunting and fishing. With the development of the floating bridge, Mercer Island real estate became very desirable for many city dwellers.

Connected to the Interstate 90 Bridge, Mercer Island is mostly comprised of small businesses and residential communities taking advantage of Lake Washington views. Mercer Island attracts many affluent homeowners, including Microsoft's co-founder Paul Allen, the city is known locally and regionally as an island for the wealthy. Many Mercer Island properties are secluded from the roads behind foliage and gates, offering the multiple well-known residents privacy from the Bellevue and Seattle traffic.

Many of the high-end Mercer Island homes on Lake Washington are some of the most expensive properties in the Seattle real estate market. Activities
Mercer Island provides an excellent meeting place for onlookers watching the Blue Angels' performance during Seattle's Seafair in the summer. Also, for the aspiring actor, the award-winning Northwest Children's Theater is located in central Mercer Island. |
