Kirkland Real Estate

History
Kirkland, named after enterprising businessman and British settler Peter Kirk, was originally founded as an expansion of his Moss Bay steel company. Kirk acquired residency with the help of Leigh S.J. Hunt, owner of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, creating the Kirkland Land Development Company. The mill was never able to produce any steel and was closed, opening the way for other businessmen to develop new property in Kirkland. The new town became a settling point for ferry operations in the early 1900s and for Washington's fist woolen mill, supplying wool for Alaskan gold prospectors and the US military during World War I.
