History
Logger George Brackett, who named the city after Vermont Senator, George Franklin Edmunds, founded Edmonds in 1890. Edmonds is long past its former logging days, and now is home to a large marina and fishing pier, ferry dock, senior center, and numerous beaches, parks, shops and restaurants.
Description
Edmonds sits on the Puget Sound waterfront and is far away from the busy I-5 traffic. The downtown's major landmark is a fountain located in the center of a roundabout at the intersection of Main St. and fifth. Most Edmonds properties are small houses, apartment buildings, and retirement communities.
Residents
The residents of Edmonds are war veterans, along with families desiring a quaint town removed, but not too far, from busy Seattle. Many residents and visitors can be seen at the underwater park that lies next to the ferry dock near the marina. Residents also enjoy walking the beach and basking in the glow of a spectacular sunset from their Puget Sound view homes.
Housing
Edmond, WA real estate sits on the upper end of Seattle real estate, with many houses being worth triple their listing price just three years ago. However, there are many affordable condominiums in Edmonds near the downtown.
Activities
Edmonds is home to a multitude of festivals: the Edmonds Art Festival, Fourth of July Parade, the Taste of Edmonds and much more. The Driftwood Players also reside in Edmonds and are known to put on a well-rehearsed performance for evening entertainment. The main downtown has a wide array of small, unusual shops, restaurants and art galleries, drawing people to stroll down the flower-adorned streets.
